Friends of St James' Church

The 'Friends' are a group of people who are fervently committed to preserving our beautiful ancient Church for the local community and for its future generations.

The Church is an important part of our local heritage and its upkeep and maintenance, contrary to general perception, relies entirely on money raised locally.

Our fund-raising is essential as the upkeep of such an old building requires regular maintenance and expenditure which is totally reliant on donations, voluntary receipts, regular giving by parishioners and our fund-raising. No money other than what is raised locally is received.

Our previous fund-raising efforts have not just included activities such as raffles, bingo, a quiz, table-top and car boot sales, but also exciting events including Brass on the Grass, Country and Western evenings, a darts demonstration by 'Wolfie', outdoor music and laughter picnics, an Orpheus Choir Concert and 70's group in the Church last year and our music and comedy Hog Roast this summer.

Joining the 'Friends' does not mean you have to attend Church or live in the parish but if you would like to become actively involved in supporting our efforts to maintain the Church, your assistance would be very welcome.

If you would like to join our committee, can spare time for 4 meetings a year and have the energy and inspiration to help with fund-raising, - Click here - to e-mail the 'Friends of St James' Church', or telephone David Smith, Chairman on 870909 or Jenni Stone, Secretary on 588836.
